#30x30DirectWatercolor 2021 : Watercolor Vs. Oils, The Great Debate

In recent years I’ve been spending a lot of time in the studio, painting in oils. For a person who’d defined themselves with plein-air sketching in watercolor, this has been a significant departure from myself! Though – this is one of many reasons why I want to keep doing the annual 30×30 marathon. At least, for this one month of a year, I will be able to keep in contact with my roots in watercolor. I’m sure this won’t be the ONLY watercolor I do this year, but, if it ends up that way – at least it will be a serious project :)

All that being said, what I took on this year was an extended side-by-side comparison. Painting images that I’d painted recently in oils. Seeing if, were I to revisit the same image, how I would do it better in watercolor! If that was even possible :) Or, if there were just differences – not better or worse – but just different responses provoked by the different media.

Here below are my Thirty Paintings, in Thirty Days, for the year of 2021. You can click though to read the original posts written at the time.

Thanks very much!
