Quick sketch from Cortona

June 12, 2015

Updated with a proper scan now that we’re home. This is a typical street view in the old village of Cortona. You can’t help but make sun-drenched sketches in this town – it is after all the inspiration for Under The Tuscan Sun. (The novel, and the film).

There’s a photo of this palette with color names here : https://citizensketcher.wordpress.com/2015/04/10/24-color-full-spectrum-paint-box/

it is pretty fun to use here in Italy!

i’m enjoying having a Red Oxide a lot – for those roof tiles.

Amazingly fresh and vibrant. Excellent sketch. Makes me want to go to Cortona and sketch too! Looks like you did this piece with watercolor only, is this correct?

yes, I had a little more time, so painted it all on location – there’s a little pencil drawing in places – just to map out the forms.
