#30x30DirectWatercolor 2023 : A Year of Experiments
.
My #30x30DirectWatercolor for 2023 started with a grand experiment in hand-grinding my own watercolor pigments, but quickly devolved into aimless wandering. A bit of this and a bit of that. By the end, I had thirty paintings; each one a flight of fancy with no consistent theme or driving purpose.
It turned out my foray into making my own pigments was just a weekend hobby. Not nearly a deep enough subject on which to build a series of work.
I had failed to approach the watercolor season with a plan of action – certainly not like 2019, when I completed a series, AND published a monograph in that single month.

That summer was beautiful. Gardens all over Montreal were in record-breaking bloom, and I resorted to painting flowers at the botanical garden. My marathon of research ended up being more of a painting vacation, chatting with online friends on our Facebook group.
Not the worst of all possible outcomes!
So, here for posterity, is a link list of the whole project. Please enjoy my summer holiday, 2023 :)
