Notes from a Workshop!

Hey everyone! Here’s a little free handout I made for the first ever USK:MTL instructed workshop! Held this past weekend in the Old Port of Montreal. The local team put on a great event, with three instructors, in a excellent location offering drawing subjects only a few steps away!
If you’re ever in town and looking for a cute place to sketch, I recommend the little park called Place d’Youville. It has one of the loveliest buildings in town: the Caserne Central de Pompiers. Built on the archeological site of the first Parliament of Canada. There is a very well done museum exhibition and interpretive installation on site. All of the blocks right around here feature quaint views that take you back to an earlier time. It is also the site of a little festival: the 18th Century Market, which is produced every year by the Pointe-à-Callière – our local archeology museum.
Thanks everyone who came to sketch for the day!

Thank you for sharing this! I have all of your books and pore through all of your advice. :)
Same here. I have all his books, and purchased all his online classes. His line work, brushwork, and over style are my favorite. I have to stay I like his watercolor, ink, and ink and water color over his oils. I guess we are his biggest fans!
Wonderfully helpful remarks for Skechers outdoors! Many thanks!
Thank you Marc for the workshop yesterday morning. It was really interesting to see your approach « live ». I will try to put in practice what I learned !
Hi Marc! I was actually in Montreal (live in New Hampshire) last weekend and was out sketching on my own. Would have loved to join in…. How do i learn about events like this?
Thanks for the great handout! To study with you for a day or weekend would be such a gift.

There is a Facebook group for Urban Sketchers Montreal where they post their events: https://www.facebook.com/groups/uskmtl/ But also there is the international site, where you can find all the chapters in almost any major city you might want to visit: https://urbansketchers.org/where-we-sketch/#map
It’s always worth asking in these city groups, you can usually find someone who is up for a day out sketching!
Thank you Marc for the handout. I have your w/c book. This will be a helpful addition to it with its great points and advice.

Marc,
I wasn’t in Montreal last weekend :-) but will second Kathy’s comments. It would be great if you were to do some of the travel workshops that other ‘professional’ urban sketchers are doing in fun locations around the world. There’s so much to learn about your wonderful approach. And…this worksheet is golden. Many thanks for sending it out. Always great to see a message from you.
Best,
Paul
Thank you for this inspiration!
