Day 24 : #30x30DirectWatercolor2019 : Re-Inspiration

June 24, 2019

So, I’ve been fussing with something here in the past few days, which is that I’ve used up the inspirational value of my digital sketches. (For now).

I did – I think 45 sketches – to get me to 30 paintings. It was sort of a random number. I just sketched whatever was in my head and stopped naturally when the ideas started slowing down.

After you’ve been painting all the best ones – the ones that grabbed your eye – eventually, you’re down to the dregs. There really isn’t anything worth painting left!

So – I had to take a day off and sketch some new ideas.

Just for a break, I went back to the familiar – and painted in ink and wash with Chinese brushes.

Tomorrow, I’ll ‘re-boot’ with some of these new inspirations.

Seeing more white space in these, a change from the density of dark in previous paintings. The calligraphic lines give it a feeling of joy which I often experience in landscape. Thanks again, Marc

I love the way you are letting us in on your studio process, it makes sense! This #30x30DirectWatercolor I have plenty of ideas for more paintings myself from all my work this month. Thanks! Your new direction is really nice! I haven’t done a full sheet in awhile, but the mixture with the cups is great, an advice from an old teacher of mine always mix more than you need, you don’t want to run out in the middle of a big wash, and I have done that!

very beautiful, you are getting closer to abstract art, you notice the importance of the gesture of painting, maybe they would be beautiful in large format. Good job! Greta Margot
