I’m moving to Instagram!

September 29, 2018

Hey everyone! I’ve set up a home for my oil paintings: @m.holmes.art.

So- what’s going on? Well – I’ve been writing about sketching on location for ten years now. In that time you’ve seen me go from an itinerant sketch-book artist to a published author and online art-instructor, and eventually, a painter inducted into our national watercolor society.

Today, in the fall of 2018, it’s time to start a new chapter.

Over on @m.holmes.art, I’ll be sharing a new body of work – alla prima painting in oils.

Life is change. Old dogs learn new tricks. As artists, we’re continually expanding our abilities and interests. I can only follow where inspiration leads.

I’ll be taking a break from CitizenSketcher for now – but I’m keeping it up online, as the blog is still a good resource for students and sketchers. But I won’t be adding to the archive or actively answering questions for a while.

Honestly, everything I have to say about art is here in these pages. In need a bit of a break to learn something new! Otherwise I wont have anything to say.

So, for the next little while, if you want to reach me, give me a follow at @m.holmes.art.

See you in the painting studio :)

~ Marc

So sorry to hear you go.

I don’t do Instagram. I don’t do PInterest, Photobucket, Imgr, Facebook or Twitter.

So I am blocked from commenting on them plus any other media that requires any of those subscriptions.

So I’ll unsubscribe from your blog on WordPress and say best wishes.

Sorry to lose touch! I do understand why you stay off those kinds of social media. It should be a choice, and many people go down the rabbit hole without thinking where their time is going. You don’t have to unsub tho – who knows, maybe I’ll make an announcement here about something or other :) Never say never :)

Perhaps you can announce your 30×30 and similar here as a reminder. I participated this year but won’t remember next year without a reminder and I won’t know about any other likewise activities.

Thanks so much Marc. Your Craftsy classes have unlocked a world of creativity for me that I’ll be forever grateful for. I love your idea of going back to the beginning of this blog… I’ll do that. And I’m already following your new work on Instagram, even if oils aren’t my bag now.

    • September 29, 2018 2:56 PM

Yet! hah! (I never thought I’d do them either – very messy and inconvenient compared to watercolor :)

I know that you went through a difficult time with your dad’s health…. I hope that you’re doing well,

Thanks so much for the heads up! I don’t know how I set that (by accident!). Cleary a noob mistake :)

It’s been great getting your newsletters/posts although I haven’t been able to read everything, but everything I have read has always been much enjoyed and inspiring. And like Pat L, I’ll be checking out your blog resource in new ways. Good luck with your new adventure. I’ve given you a follow on instagram – I love your mark-making in oils! Lovely landscapes I’ve seen so far, and I bet it’s great to be doing such painting in such locations. Great to connect to nature in such a way. Best wishes.

    • September 29, 2018 2:59 PM

Thanks for the follow Jenny! Oh and – I don’t mean to leave a false impression – this new work is studio painting not plein-air. Mostly from my wife Laurel’s photos. (and a few of my own). The move from location-obsession to painting-indoors is all about timing. Sick parents mean no travel for a while. So I’m diving back into our years of photos and seeing what I can make in the studio.

Hi Marc, Just wanna say thank you for everything you shared on Citizen Sketcher as well as in your online classes. Almost everything I know about sketching and watercolour was from you. Are you still going to give workshops at USK symposiums though? All the best to your new adventure.

Best wishes, Marc, on your latest endeavors! I’ve learned so much from you, and will continue to, whatever you do. By the way, tell all those folks who don’t do social media that the cool thing about IG is that you don’t have to be on IG to see your posts! I have several friends who follow me without being on IG themselves. They can’t comment, of course, but if they just want to lurk, it’s easy enough (and a big improvement on Facebook, which really does keep non-Facebookers out).
