Hmmm, yes FB link works in one browser, not another – unreliable for whatever reason – facebook doesn’t want me to link direct to this. You’ll have to find Sktchy’s page, then teh Videos tab and then my video in their library – sorry! Till I find a better way to link.
Been following this website/blog for a few months. Ever since a friend loaned me Urban Sketching. Read it cover to cover. But it was interesting to see the demonstration. You use such different colors than I do. I use no whites or blacks. I have a couple of questions about the demo. Was the paper wet when you started? What size pointed round do you use? Is it all sable? We have a minuscule group of “Urban Sketchers” in rural Nevada County California, halfway between Sacramento and LakeTahoe. Hopefully it will grow this summer. Hey Elinor – no, I don’t pre-wet the paper – just tape it down and start right in. I find I have more control of blending edges working Wet-on-Dry. As for the brush, that’s a #7 pointed round sable – from Winsor and Newton. Great for fine details. Good luck with your sketching group – you certainly have the weather for drawing outdoors!
When you said you aim for a “3 out of 10 hit ratio” I felt inspired. Sometimes a drawing that isn’t working out makes me want to stop. No! Move on and do 9 more! And like you said 3 will probably be good and maybe 1 will be a zinger.
I wasn’t able to catch you doing this live, but I was able to view it a few hours late. Great job!!!

Thanks for letting us know about Sktchy … I’m just getting started with it and I think I’ll do one fast face a day. It’s great for helping me practice getting a reasonable human-looking person (even if not much of a likeness) for when I sketch on site. :)
