August 10, 2013
Just a quick note: If you are interested in, or already registered for, my Expressive Painting in Watercolor class at Syn Studio this Oct-Dec – here’s a link to the supply list.
Last I heard there were only two spots left! ~m

The tape on your brushes is a memory. We used to add tape on brushes for brush lettering class in the late 70s. Still have one of those in brush jar!

Hah! Awesome. I would be terrible at hand lettering! I’m certainly not that steady :) For me it’s two things – waterproofing the ferrule of the brush – so the wood handle doesn’t get too wet and expand. But mostly – making the little ones thick enough to hang inside bulldog clips :) :) https://citizensketcher.files.wordpress.com/2013/08/2013-usk-mtl-workshop-53.jpg
Am getting started, which easel would you recommend for watercolour en plein air painting?
Hey Jem – I get a lot of use out of this type of easel: http://www.enpleinairpro.com/traveler_watercolor_easel.html
It’s very portable – I can take it anywhere. I’ve used it for over 5 years now.
Marc, Many thanks for this advice. Had thought that it might be a ‘pro traveller’, just can’t get them in UK at the moment. Great site, great art! Glad I joined. Holiday in Thailand at the moment, turtles to sketch next!
Marc, I just read your list of colors and am rather suprised to see black! Why not indigo, or Paynes grey? Just curious and always interested in learning. Thanks
Hey Susan – I decided to answer this up on the front page :) https://citizensketcher.wordpress.com/2013/08/12/faq-good-question-of-the-week-ivory-black/
I was about to order the easel package you suggest but shipping fees were 144.47$, is there something equivalent in Canada. Maybe it’s time for you to start your own on line store for art supplies?
Yikes – that *is* bad. I have to admit, I was in the states when I picked it up. I don’t have an off-the-shelf solution to recommend in Canada. Right now I am using a full size camera tripod instead of the mini that came with the Traveler. (I use the portable gear indoors, and a full size outside). You could look at a good Manfrotto tripod and an accessory ‘laptop tray (google the Manfrotto 055XPR08). Laptop supports are getting to be more widely available due to digital photography. It’s worth it to go into a professional photography store and explain what you are trying to do. They can show you alternatives for clamps and trays that might be expensive, but end up being less than that shipping. I will work on a post that shows this setup.
Hello, good day.
Please, I need to know where and at what price I can buy a mix palette for watercolor as seen in the photo ( https://citizensketcher.com/2013/08/10/supply-list-for-class/ ), thanks in advance.
