Day 13 : #30x30DirectWatercolor : Havana
June 13, 2020
I painted this alley in Havana because of that guy carrying the fridge.
At the time Laurel took this photo, I was drawing the dome in the distance. We’ve had this urban sketching photo in the archives for probably ten years, and I’d never seen that guy before. I used to be so laser-focused on drawing old buildings.
Weird hey?
So there you go, Day 13!
I’ll leave you with some more abstract brushwork.

I left a comment in the box on WordPress (I think). Maybe you will see it. Your technique and use of colour both in the architectural sketches and the quicker abstract studies is impressive and delightful. I enjoyed seeing your work.
Thanks Deborah! As we get more comfortable, and able to see things as just shapes and marks, the entire process of painting is more enjoyable. It used to be a bit of struggle to ‘get everything right’. I think in my old age I’ve relaxed and just ‘paint what I see’. Its funny how you hear those phrases for years and they finally click :)
Love the abstract shadows and the colors you used.
That’s funny Marc. It shows you that we often look but don’t see!
