Calgary comes up James Short

June 14, 2011

Who is James Short and why does he deserve a park?

The internet tells me there used to be a James Short School on this spot. I can only assume the school sunk into the ground leaving the clock-tower projecting out of a tiny bit of lawn. The ‘park’ is a postage stamp green zone in the heart of Cowtown’s glass canyons.

Anyone who debates the cow-towniness of Calgary, I’ll just point out your new city cops with the big black hats and matching stab proof vests. Not that I’m calling you out Calgary – but the only thing I found to draw was a tin roofed shed!

very nice sketch. Here’s the story if you are [really] interested. Posted by our parks foundation We actually do have some good things happening in “cowtown” wrt arts… hope you stayed long enough to find that out.

I only kid because I love! We do get back to Calgary every year (I’m from Edmonton, my wife from Calgary) – this time was just in and out so fast – really no time to really go drawing :) Next year I’ll have to hit you up for some spot before we come out!

Yes! me too! that’s something I’m sort of working on, but can’t quite find the time. If only I had a team mate who wanted to help me make them :) Here’s a few tests I’ve done up here:
There will be more someday! (not too long I hope).

I really love the way you draw/paint. I would love to watch a video of you doing a quick sketch! Hint, hint?
